We Want Your Input 11/29/2011
We are in the process of updating our Local Wellness Policy. Federal law requires that each school district review and/or update their wellness policy on an annual basis. Every public school academy, such as ours, is considered its own district. Please take a few moments to review the policy below and provide your input either as a comment, or you can email your input to Kathy Hayes. Be sure to indicate the school name in the email. The deadline for parent community feedback is Friday, December 9, 2011.

Topic for this week's newsletter on ways to easily build assets for children is support. The more love, support, caring and adult contacts a child has, the more likely he or she is to grow up healthy. Be sure to read the Character Education page (look on the sidebar and click on the Quality School tab) for tips to help children in our community grow to be loving, caring people themselves. Building Developmental Assets 08/21/2011
If we expect to create a culture at Lake Erie that nurtures success in our children, we must engage families and students from the first day of school. Starting today, the Character Education page (look on the sidebar for the Quality School tab) will feature a weekly "Ideas for Parents" newsletter with useful tips on ways families and community members can help build support assets in children and youth. We encourage you to use these tools as we work together to create students who are prepared to be leaders, help others and succeed in all areas of life. Parent Grade Level Guides 08/18/2011
Be sure to check out the grade level guides located at the website’s Resources page. These guides provide an overview of what you can expect your child will learn by the end of the year in mathematics and English language arts/literacy. The guides focus on the key skills your child will learn in these subjects, which will build a strong foundation for success in other subjects he or she studies throughout the school year. The grade level guides are based on the new Common Core State Standards which have been adopted by the state of Ohio. If your child is meeting the expectations outlined in these standards at the end of the 2011-12 school year, he or she will be well prepared for the next grade level. First Day of School 08/16/2011
